TIDE Web Service Added for Public Web Programming

A publicly available web service was added to RSHGS that predicts the tide height for any of the 300 tidal stations along the U.S. Coast. Sample source code for new web service programmers will be released soon. More information may be found under "GEOGRAPHIC DATA", and "Tide Stations..." on this web site.

KOMPSAT 2 Satellite Launched

The Korean satellite, KOMPSAT-2, with a 1m pan and 4m multispectral sensor was launched on July 28, 2006. The SPOT image company will be an image provider.

WAIVER of 24-HOUR IMAGE DISTRIBUTION DELAY

Historically for national security purposes, the U.S. government has restricted distribution of high spatial resolution imagery collected from commercial U.S. satellites. For the highest imagery available on the commercial market (between 0.5 meter and 0.82 meter for panchromatic; and 2.0 to 3.28 meter for multispectral), the implementation of this restriction is through a 24-hour delay. Recognizing the need for such imagery immediately before, during, and after disaster events, a waiver for this distribution delay has been approved. Federal, state and local governments and NGOs are able to purchase U.S. commercial satellite imagery (at the highest commercial resolutions) for disaster response directly from the companies that collect the data and within 24-hours of the event. SURVEY OF GEOSPATIAL TECHNOLOGY USE IN EOCS

The survey of Geospatial Technology use in the state emergency preparedness offices completed December 20, 2005. This research surveyed the state-level emergency operations center within each state to determine if the state uses geospatial technologies, how they use such technologies, and impediments to such use. (see the "Surveys of Geospatial Use" under RESOURCES for a copy of this report).
